What is Rising to the Challenge?

Rising to the Challenge aimed to raise awareness of climate change and what it means for us here in Somerset. The project was run by Somerset County Council, working with a wide range of Partners across Somerset and the South West.

We were one of 82 projects across England supported by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affair's Climate Challenge Fund, until February 2008.

Why Rising to the Challenge?

The name refers to the main challenge that Somerset faces from climate change - flooding and rising sea-levels.

See Somerset, Climate Change and you.
What did we do?

We put on a whole range of activities which included:

  • the Climate Cafe – a roadshow which toured town centres and events across Somerset over the summer of 2007
  • a teachers resource pack for Key Stage 2
  • a series of workshops for primary schools (Key Stage 2)
  • a number of business seminars and talks
  • competitions and prizes
